The US Coast Guard’s sail training barque Eagle has returned home home to New London after a summer training cruise.
The ship returned Friday morning to the State Pier in Fort Trumbull. Over the last four months the Eagle has visited 13 ports in the U.S. and Canada, training more than 550 cadets.
The Eagle ranged from New Orleans to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In New England, it visited New London, Portland, Maine, and Newport, R.I., and took part in July 4th festivities in Boston along with the USS Constitution.
It has been used in Coast Guard training since 1946.
Looking like it is being led in by thed Long Island High Speed Ferry the Eagle is just about home.
A submarine was coming back into port at the same time saluting the Eagle. (In the background of the picture)
