After driving up and down I-91 almost every other day and noticing bright reflections coming from atop a hill in Hamden, I finally decided to take a road trip over the weekend to check out what I was seeing.
Little did I know that a wonderful surprise awaited me atop Quinnipiac University’s 250 acre York Hill Campus, located at 305 Sherman Ave in Hamden. At the highest point is this “Wind Garden”, composed of 42 vertical wind turbines that generate 84,000 kilowatt hours per year. Each of these turbines are 40 feet high, and built right into a wonderful garden atmosphere on top of York Hill which has the best view around, and adorned with comfortable chairs to sit in.
I will be sure to return to the campus in better weather to relax with the great view, and to enjoy the wonderful low relaxing hum if the wind turbines are turning. It’s almost like listening to the sounds of ocean. Like I say, “Keep looking up” you never know what you will see.
