After seeing Hartford’s First Night Fireworks multiple times in Bushnell Park it was time for a change.
Hearing the hype about fireworks being launched off of a building in Middletown at 6pm I decided to search out a vantage point and get some images of them over the city.
The best point was on the Arrigoni Bridge. Getting my gear together, I hiked on to the bridge from the Portland side to get a get view of the launch site, and the city as a backdrop.
As six o’clock the first of the fireworks assended into the air. A single “Roman candle shot” marking where the fireworks were coming from. Then another single shot, and another single shot. OK, where are the fireworks. I could do better with a flare gun. It got better….not much better. Actually…I could have done better with a trip to North Carolina. Fill my trunk up with some “real” fireworks and put on a show on the banks of the Connecticut River. I have seen better displays on lakes or campgrounds, or my brothers backyard on the 4th of July. All the people on the bridge watching the fireworks with us were booing, hissing and shouting many words at the city…
Don’t believe me? Here are the one of best shots out of 75, taken from the long 4.5 minute display….nice.. I will back in Hartford next year!
