This was the perfect weekend to be on the water, and thousands of people through Connecticut took advantage of the hot weather to be in or near the water.
I took in two events this weekend that can only be called Nautical Novelties.
The first was the Riverfront Dragon Boat and Asian Festival in Hartford at the Riverfront Plaza. Hundreds of particiapants, and thousands of spectators watched as crews of 20 rowers each competed in their Dragon Boats racing up the Connecticut River all day.
The second was a true piece of Americana in East Hamton, Connecticut. Sponsored by the Friends of Lake Pocotopaug, the Dennis Griswold Showboat Parade toured around the lake as hundreds of people on the shoreline cheered as the theme based boats floated by.
Here are some images from the days many marine memories.

Two boats in a Dragon “neck-to-neck” finish.
Thought I was kidding? Check out the bows of the boats!
Ever see a bus float? I guess you have never been to Lake Pocotopaug!
Just seeing Mr. Snowman made you feel cooler in the 90 degree tempertures.
Ever see a eight foot duck?
The West Shore Marine boats led the parade with Santa Claus, and a special tribute to Dennis Griswold.
