Sunflowers, Sunflowers, and more Sunflowers

July 29, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

Another hidden gem of Connecticut (especially for it's photographers) is Buttonwood Farm, in Griswold. For several weeks in July people from all over New England come to experience acres and acres of Sunflowers. Here is part of the history of how these Sunflowers got there, right from the Buttonwood Farm website. "In 2003 at the suggestion of a friend, we planted a … [Read more...]

Full Worm Moon

March 8, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

It was a wonderful evening to go worm hunting. That's Worm Moon hunting! With great weather upon us I took advantage of it and chased down the full Worm Moon last night. This time trying to get it coming up in back of the historic New London's Ledge Lighthouse. Everything was going to plan until a bank of low clouds moved in. The moon slithered through the cloud layer, … [Read more...]

Wonderful Winter Waterfall

February 19, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

With this unreal winter weather here for at least another week I decided to go out and see what the East Haddam, Connecticut's Devil's Hopyard waterfall looked like. Even through the usual snow was not on the ground, and temperatures were in the 50's the waterfall did not dissapoint. Other than a person walking their dogs, I had the whole place to myself. A great time to … [Read more...]

Castle Moon over Meriden, Connecticut

February 5, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

If comets, asteroids, planets, and winter storms can be named, I could name my own moon images. Keeping it local I present to you for the first time (drum roll please).....The February Castle Moon, Meriden, Connecticut! The sun was about to go down, and the "Golden Hour" of photography was approaching. I set up my equipment about 5.5 miles away in Cheshire, CT. where I … [Read more...]

Comstock Bridge renovation almost complete

January 28, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

The historic Comstock Bridge in East Hampton, Connecticut renovation is almost complete. Closed in January of 2010 for a total makeover, this 95 foot covered bridge originally built in 1873 is now open to the public and walkable to cross the river. I was there this afternoon, as a steady flow of Comstock Bridge "watchers" commented on how nice of a job was done even … [Read more...]

January 17, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

The first snow of 2012 brought out "Snow Lovers" of all kinds. I found these two trying to keep cold on a park bench this morning in Bushnell Park in Hartford, Ct. … [Read more...]

First ice crystals of 2012

January 15, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

The temperature finally dropped enough to form some nice ice crystals on my garage windows. Here is what I harvested at 13 degrees! I love shooting ice crystals. The possibilities are infinate! Here another image, but I thought I would invert it for a little change.   Go here to see what I shot last year https://ctcameraeye.com/?p=3457  or here   … [Read more...]

These “Eyes” are always watching Pope Park

January 10, 2012 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

I have always felt someone was watching me as I drove through Pope Park in Hartford, Connecticut. Now, CtCameraEye has the proof that a number of eyes have had the "Eye" on me! Thanks to Real Art Ways, Pope Park has 77 trees with cartoon faces to watch what is going on. Commissioned in 2009 Matthew Rodriguez, a native of Austin, Texas had the unique experience to paint … [Read more...]

Looking for leaves, finding dinosaur tracks

October 16, 2010 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

A perfect day for leaf peeping in Connecticut yeilded more than a few frames of fall foliage in my camera. A never disappointing area to observe great autumn colors, and have maybe an apple fritter or two, is in Middlefield, Connecticut around the Lyman Orchards area. Rolling hills, acres of ripe apples, and squeals of children and adults as they pick their pumpkin for the … [Read more...]

It’s snowing out? Get out your telescope!

January 2, 2010 by CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

Ok, it's cold, windy and snowing outside. The perfect day to get out your telescope and do some observing. No, not the kind of observing we are used to, but how about something closer to home. I did just that today after watching the snow pile up yet again in my yard. But this time was different. There was more than a usual showing of birds all over the yard and I thought I … [Read more...]

Mercury Transit

May 10, 2016 By CtCameraEye Leave a Comment

It was about 10 years since I saw the last Transit of Mercury across the face of sun. The last time I had a lot of time to get set up and practice my exposures on the sun. This year I was working and was only able to get the last hour […]
