One of the things that I wanted to accomplish at the recent Connecticut Star Party was to image an object that I have never seen before. Thanks to ASNH President Greg Barker I managed to locate and photograph "The Eye of God" otherwise known as The Helix Nebula. Most people have seen a close up of this planetary nebula in Aquarius, equating it to it's smaller cousin in the … [Read more...]

Photos of the UFO witnessed at the Connecticut Star Party
One of my friend in the media industry saw my blog about the UFO sighting that had everyone up and down the east coast in a frenzy for a few hours. This was until NASA reported that it had launched a rocket from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virgina. The bright cone of light that was witnessed by hundreds of people was made to produce an artificial cloud. He was out … [Read more...]

Colorful Connecticut Capitol
It was unfortunate I had to return to work this week, but my spirits picked up a little when I saw this great image of the State Capitol dome surrounded in fog during sunrise this morning at 6:35am. I guess I could say I did a little solar astronomy as I watched the sun creep into the sky. … [Read more...]

Summer sun
It's been awhile since we had the nice burst of solar activity in the beginning of the summer. I figured I owed it to Sol that I give it one more look before summer ends. For weeks the disk has been void of anything, and today was no exception. I did manage to get an image of the whole disk showing a few promeninces around its rim this afternoon. Have a safe and clear … [Read more...]
Connecticut Corn Moon
Last night was a great night to go out and look at the yearly "Corn Moon". Well, almost a Corn Moon. It was 97.5% full, but close enough for me. Here's a photograph that I took last night of it. This full Moon corresponds with the time of harvesting corn. It is also called the Barley Moon, because it is the time to harvest and thresh the ripened barley. The Harvest Moon … [Read more...]
