It’s been a mere 8 years since the last Venus Transit around here, and it will be over one hundred years till we see another if you miss the next one on June 5th-6th, in the year 2117.
I went to Pt. Judith , R.I. back in June 5, 2004 to shoot the last one, as the sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean. A sight that I will never forget.
It was very foggy out as scores of people at the Pt. Judith lighthouse scanned the horizon for and sign of the sun. A little after sunrise the sun appeared out of the fog just enough to see the sun naked eye with the planet Venus starting to go across it. It looked like a scene right out of Star Trek of a planet floating in the sky with the sun as it’s background. It was probably the most amazing astronomical scene I have ever witnessed.
So, in prepartation to the next transit in a few weeks, I decided to pull out a few images that I shot back then.
If you have not seen the transit before make every effort to check it out. It “is” out of this world!
