I hate ice! Except for when they are in a nice beverage. I have always hated ice.
My mother tried to make me ice skate. Sorry mom, after 50 years, I still can’t ice skate.
My brother took my ice fishing. He caught all the fish.
My roof and gutters are filled with ice. It’s even making icicles 8 feet tall and reaching the ground. I think that’s the only reason that the gutters aren’t falling off the house. If I wanted to see stalagtites and stalagmites I would have lived in a cave….in Hawaii.
My driveway, deck and walkways are filled with ice. Hello…. Home Depot. You had better have some more ice melt coming in soon!
There is even ice forming on my trees next to my house. This ice came from the it melting off the gutters when the sun hits it, and dripping on to delicate branches of the trees I just planted this year.
There is even frickin ice now growing like mold on the inside of garage windows!
Whoa…..This is where CtCameraEye had enough, and turned “this ice” it into some thing nice to look at for once.
Armed with a macro lens, tripod, cable shutter release, and a beverage (adult) with ice in it, I tackled my latest experiment. In all my years I never tried to take pictures of ice crystals.
I was up, just as the sun was rising to try to capture some unique lighting on the ice crystals that had formed overnight on my garage windows. After a lot of practice with different f/stops, and exposures, here’s what I managed to get after two mornings of shooting before the sun melted away my living ice canvas. Hope you enjoy them as much as you enjoyed my rantings!
The one below shows how actually small the crystals are in this 1/2″ ruler reference.
