Over the past 10 days or so Sunspot 1029 made a nice showing to solar observers around the world anxiously waiting for Solar Cycle 24 to get ramped up. Hopefully this is a nice start. This sunspot complex was the first one I observed since July (sunspot 1024). Take a look at the video and some still images I managed to capture this week between all the rain we have been having.
Here is an image that I took with my Canon 20d with a Coronado 60mm Ha Filter. I converted the usual re/orange colors to a more visible blueish hue, and turned the background to a neutral off white. Imaged on September 29th late in the afternoon. The sunspot is on the extreme right, almost on the limb of the sun.
Finally here the first close up Ha image I took on September 26th. Again late in the afternoon. From Marlborough, Ct. This was a stacked image of 370 video frames.
