Taking a short trip down I-91 to Meriden’s Hubbard Park this year to see the “Festival of Silver Lights” was my best Christmas gift I could give myself this year.
Dissapointed in seeing how Hartford’s Holiday light display in Bushnell Park was after they had moved it from Constitution Plaza, this display gave me my Santa smile back!
Best of all, it is free! All you have to do is follow the line of vehicles in a figure “8” pattern around the park at about 10 MPH, which takes about 10 minutes. If the “WOW” factor comes over you at any point, there are plenty of places to pull over and get out to see the figures up close.
Hubbard Park, which is located on West Main Street (Rt 322) has over 300 lighted displays. Dipicted in white lights are all kinds of animals, astronomical objects, well known local sights, a festive stage area, and a 30 foot world globe.
Fellow reader….Here is my Christmas hint for all of you. Take your camera to the park when you go, and take a Christmas Photo for you and your family this year, for next years card! Wear a Santa hat, Rudolf’s nose, some red clothes, and pose in front of one of the lighted figures, and there is plenty of people around who would be glad to take your picture!
So, ho, ho, ho…. Clear skies or not, it’s the place to go!
