Another hidden gem of Connecticut (especially for it's photographers) is Buttonwood Farm, in Griswold. For several weeks in July people from all over New England come to experience acres and acres of Sunflowers. Here is part of the history of how these Sunflowers got there, right from the Buttonwood Farm website. "In 2003 at the suggestion of a friend, we planted a … [Read more...]
Full Worm Moon
It was a wonderful evening to go worm hunting. That's Worm Moon hunting! With great weather upon us I took advantage of it and chased down the full Worm Moon last night. This time trying to get it coming up in back of the historic New London's Ledge Lighthouse. Everything was going to plan until a bank of low clouds moved in. The moon slithered through the cloud layer, … [Read more...]
Wonderful Winter Waterfall
With this unreal winter weather here for at least another week I decided to go out and see what the East Haddam, Connecticut's Devil's Hopyard waterfall looked like. Even through the usual snow was not on the ground, and temperatures were in the 50's the waterfall did not dissapoint. Other than a person walking their dogs, I had the whole place to myself. A great time to … [Read more...]
Castle Moon over Meriden, Connecticut

Keeping it local I present to you for the first time (drum roll please).....The February Castle Moon, Meriden, Connecticut! Looking for leaves, finding dinosaur tracks
A perfect day for leaf peeping in Connecticut yeilded more than a few frames of fall foliage in my camera. A never disappointing area to observe great autumn colors, and have maybe an apple fritter or two, is in Middlefield, Connecticut around the Lyman Orchards area. Rolling hills, acres of ripe apples, and squeals of children and adults as they pick their pumpkin for the … [Read more...]
It’s snowing out? Get out your telescope!
Ok, it's cold, windy and snowing outside. The perfect day to get out your telescope and do some observing. No, not the kind of observing we are used to, but how about something closer to home. I did just that today after watching the snow pile up yet again in my yard. But this time was different. There was more than a usual showing of birds all over the yard and I thought I … [Read more...]
